…theyre humans. they work at rival bakeries. sometimes they bake things. sometimes theres soap-opera level relationship drama. sometimes they get into petty squabbles over rubber duck theft that inevitably devolve into “everyone is desperately trying to escape a convention center for the second time because a scarily competent hitman blocked all the exits, cut the power, and is out for blood. and the duck. but mostly blood”

The Backstory

It started so simply, back in early 2018. My brothers and I, sitting through the incredibly long Beast Wars season 2 theme song, began to come up with alternate rhymes to pass the time. Greased Wars, we shouted, as the theme song continued on and on. Priest Wars. Leased Wars, Feast Wars, Geesed Wars, Yeast Wars.

Wait, I thought. That’s something. That’s actually a very good idea.

I wrote 3k words of notes, shared them with my friends, and Yeast Wars was officially born. Now, more than a year and 200k words later, that time feels like a fairy tale. This is my magnum opus, my Sistine Chapel, my Eugenesis—the most important work I’ve ever created or ever will create.

As of this writing, the situation is thus: the rough drafts of Yeast Wars seasons 1 and 2 are completed. The rough draft of season 3 is about halfway finished. Season 1 is currently being posted. Chapters are meant to be posted weekly on Mondays, and this will resume shortly.

Acknowledgements

Yeast Wars was not created in a vacuum. Several people over the course of a year and a half read the rough draft and gave me the strength to go on, and I appreciate all of them.

But there are three that I always think of as The Squad, the ones who were there from the beginning: Manfred, Skiel, and Treble. Between the day I started writing in February 2018 to now, I got to meet all three of them in person, and then all three at the same time. You guys are the best and I would be nothing without you.

Last but certainly not least, thank you to David Kaye who told me to keep knocking on doors. What a sweet guy. I tear up a little bit every time I think about it. :’)
